runDisney costumes - from behind

It all began with my Minnie Mouse running costume for the 2013 WDW Marathon. I wanted my Minnie Mouse ears to be super special! Rather than having my name embroidered on the back, I had them add my social media handles! That is how most people know me at first after all.

Sure you want the front of your costume to look great for the pictures, but runners don't spend much time looking at each other! Most of the time they are running behind each other looking at their back side! When I see other great costumes on the course I always notice them first from behind. It really takes work to actually see the front side!

WDW Half 2014 wearing my Minnie ears

These 3 princesses really caught my eye on the half course! They actually are laced into those dressed! Not bad choices on the jog bras either!

Next up was this great Goofy runner! Way to wear your Goofy pride on your belt! I saw lots of plush character charms clipped onto belts, but using the bottle cage, pure genius!

This tuba player takes the cake! He was playing Sesame Street songs while running! How could you miss Big Bird!

They were back for the full marathon ... with the tuba!

Eeyore and Pooh were trooping along with their music on looking fabulous! I did tell them how amazing they looked, but this time I was too tired to get a front shot! One mile to go in the half and I needed to be done! Such simple costumes so perfectly executed!

Moving on to the full marathon! Generally speaking I love how runners transform the landscape! What was once only the expo grounds was now the "do or die zone" of the marathon! Miles 17-20 at ESPNWWOS! Everyone is in pretty standard running attire, but you have to love the RunningSkirts chevron skirt and heart socks! I have always wanted that skirt!

Around mile 20.5 I ran across these ladies! Dopey to the core! I had to capture their awesomeness! They did Dopey proud ... Stride for stride!

Their smiles made the costumes! Amazing run buddies!

Finally there is my WDW Marathon running Mickey dress! If ever I needed that extra boost I knew Dopey had my back all the way! He helped me get to the finish line where his medal was waiting!

Next time you put a running costume together think about the back. It's a great place to send a special message out to your fellow runners and to hold something close to your heart!

Send me your pictures and I will add them!

My Dopey Challenge costume lineup

So here it is...my Dopey Challenge costume lineup!

The WDW 5k as Elsa from Frozen!

The WDW Minnie 10k as you guessed it Minnie!

The WDW Donald Half Marathon as a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar! I had so much fun running in this costume at Wine & Dine I am wearing it again!

The WDW Mickey Marathon is getting the full runDisney treatment with sparkly runner Mickey on a blue running dress!

Of course Dopey has my back on this fourth leg of his challenge! I am going to need his support!

Make sure you say hello and stop for a photo if you see me! That's why I am sharing my costumes early. Travel safe and see you real soon in wonderful Walt Disney World !

Karen asked which one was my favorite? Here is my answer!

Elsa because the cold never bothered me anyway.

Minnie because she taught me I can really run a marathon in ears!

The Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar because hello...it's a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar and the crowd loves it!

Finally my runDisney Mickey and Dopey dress because it is elegant simplicity!

Thanks for asking Karen!

Always on the lookout for running skirts

I am not talking about fitness clothing...I am talking about running skirts for runDisney costumes!  I found some yesterday that I fell in love with and they were on sale.  I was at the outlets at Wrentham, Massachusetts.  It was not at a running store.  I was not even at an adult clothing store.  I was at Hanna Andersson...the children's clothing store.  I am only 5' 4" so I can wear some of there 160 cm children's cloths and these skirts were too cute not to try on.

They came in Aurora pink, Belle yellow, and Cinderella blue!

In the end I passed on the skirts, even though they were on sale for less than $30!  It just was not in yesterdays budget.  I was shopping for my Disney Social Media Moms Celebration clothing and for items for the girls.  Maybe I should have gotten the skirt to wear to dinner right!?!  Anyway these skirts were totally runner friendly!  I thought maybe they would be on the website, but no such luck.  So I guess those of you close to an outlet are in luck.  For everyone else...think outside the box and check children's stores for runner friendly costume bits.

WDW Half Marathon - Donald '13

Here we go!

The Donald Half!

The first leg of the Goofy Challenge!

Let's get this show on the road!

I made my Alice in Wonderland inspired runner friendly costume for this race.  I don't think I will ever do an apron again.  Functionally it did not impact my running, but it was a pain for pictures.  When I remembered I felt the need to fix it since it shifted right and left.  I was thrilled Alice recognized my efforts!

There they are folks! The medals hanging at the ready. They are just waiting for us!
We headed over to the finish line first thing in the morning for a little finish line inspiration!
The added plus of making this your first stop race morning are the clean finish line porta-potties!
(with Jen P.)
Check out my dry hair! It did not last long.

Morning meet up

The line to meet characters near the stage.

DJ doing his thing! Interestingly enough people were not dancing or warming up.

Originally I was up into corral B, but I showed a lower 1/2 time at runner relations at the expo
and was switched to the A corral for the half and the full!

Crowd moving toward the start area

National Anthem time

Goofy, Mickey and Donald getting their groove on in their track suits.

With Donald's count down were are off!

Fireworks and all!

Those darn Pirates!

Huge banners out on the road

Oh my...the flood lights!

At the Transportation Center right before the real bathrooms!

I love running under this arch! This is my "we are almost there" moment!

Turning left after the Contemporary and about to head into MK!

Let's do this...MAIN STREET!

Tomorrowland

Fantasyland

Don't be afraid to make up your own photo spots! Just grab a WDW staff member or spectator in the area and ask them if they can take your picture. (They always say yes, but you must have your own camera/phone.)

The New Fantasyland
(These two did not bring their own camera!)

WDW staff is so good about taking your picture anywhere you want!

At the Castle before running through!

I could not resist stopping in the castle to take a picture!

Get someone, anyone, in the ChEAR Zone to take your picture.
The distance and perspective are so much better than the official photos.

Marcia in the ChEAR Zone
(I had 2 different people take my picture to make sure I got a good one.  They were about 20 feet apart, left/right)

WDW staff shot this one I got over the bridge to the left of the castle. There is a reason it is a Kodak spot.
