As far as on course runDisney motivators go this guy has my vote for top notch motivator! Who dosn't love giant Mickey hand and good music in the early morning?
But I also find myself digging in running the ramps to the encouragements of the Green Army Men.
Okay the miles (or maybe just the sun) might have been getting to me at this point! He sure looks great though! |
Maybe it is the race crew out there on the course supporting us all...and the thought that you could just borrow a bike for a mile or two...
Or is your greatest motivator the finish line and the bling?

Whatever your motivation is, I think it is great! It might be all of the above or none of them. It might change over the course of the race or stay consistently the same. I tell myself and my husband that it is okay to repeat to yourself "recalculating, recalculating" when you need to adjust your race strategy and motivation. The finish line will never move, but how you get there may differ, and I never pass up a motivational moment.
I would love to hear what motivates you on race day. It does not have to be runDisney related, but you know I will love it if it is!
I always get a huge surge of energy from areas with a ton of crowd support--like the entrance to Magic Kingdom and along Main Street USA. I also get jazzed for those few miles that run through the parks themselves. I always find myself picking up the pace because I'm so excited! And getting cheered on by Disney characters--total boost. When I got a wave from Cinderella when I was dressed as Cinderella and going for a PR, it gave me a huge boost!
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic Karla! The place and the people make such a huge difference! Running through Cinderella's Castle is among the top reasons people give for running runDisney races. Of course it all begins with running up Main Street USA! Talk about an emotional moment for a lot of people!
DeleteI always feel so pumped thinking about Main Street USA! Nothing is more magicalor inspirational than that moment when you turn onto the street and see that huge crowd cheering for you! It gets me every single time!
ReplyDeleteThis year when I was about to enter Main Street I noticed that I was right next to one of the wheel chair racers. I could not help but be excited for him! I let him know how excited I was for him to push his way right on up Main Street USA. It is such a powerful moment...my excitement bubbles up just thinking about it. I don't know if new runDisney racers know exactly where they are and what is about to happen. I find it impossible to stay quiet about what is coming and often share my giddy anticipation with whoever is around me. Darn it...I am so excited I can barely write about it! That is the power of runDisney!
DeleteI LOVE runDisney!
ReplyDeleteIt totally motivates me every time. I can't hardly wait for the Wine and Dine in November - except for the fact that I am not totally trained for it yet.
Sarah - I am right there with you. This will be my first Wine and Dine. I ran Race for the Taste in 2009, before it was switched to W&D and a night race. This year I am finally going back! Are you logging mile with us over on my athlete FB page "for the love of Disney running?" It might be the extra motivation you need to stay on track.
