runDisney training miles friendly competition

Now that we have two runDisney race groups actively training I want to kick off a new friendly runner’s competition on my Facebook page "for the love of Disney running".
I want to know how many miles people are logging for each of the runDisney races!  Stop in each day and list your miles and let me know to which race you want them assigned (ex. 10 miles to W&D).
Don’t worry about which race you will be running at Disney that weekend.  I want everyone who is running regardless of the distance to be able to participate.
And for those of you who are running multiple runDisney race weekends, we will add your numbers to multiple tallies!
Every morning I will post the numbers and you can add your daily miles to the comments below!

(DL) Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend: August 31, 2012 - September 2, 2012
(TofT) The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler Weekend: September 28 - 29, 2012
(W&D) Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend: November 9 - 10, 2012
(WDW) Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend: January 10 - 13, 2013
(Tink) Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend: January 18 - 20, 2013
(Princess) Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend: February 22 - 24, 2013
Let’s get running and have some fun!

Running and Dreaming, and Dreaming and Running

So tonight's run was filled with thoughts of Wine & Dine as well as the Food & Wine Festival itself!  I was dreaming about bringing my professional life and my private life together in one fantastic trip!  I have so much to offer and so much wisdom to share.  Culinary and running for me equal Disney!

In 2009 I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Festival and sit in on one of the culinary demonstrations.  Of course I picked one that was going to have chocolate and desserts!  David Guas had just released his book "Dam Good Sweet."  For his demonstration he selected Chocolate Cupped Cakes with Coffee & Chicory!   It was a fabulous experience and we got to savor the flavor after watching his culinary theater.

I was also able to run in the final running of the Race for the Taste.  At the time the 10K distance was a challenge for me in the Florida heat and humidity.  Even though it was October the heat index was above100 for most of our 4.5 day visit.  The conditions really messed with my festival plans as well.  I was thinking that we would forgo the formal meals and sample our way through Epcot.  I was also thinking that one of our 2 Epcot days would be devoted to wine and the other to beer.  All of these plans went out the window as we sought refuge in air conditioned table service restaurants and passed on the alcohol.

Since Wine & Dine is in November this year we should all be able to avoid the high temps and enjoy the festival.  The race registration opens March 13th.  So get ready all you runDisney lovers, because nothing goes better with running than great food and friends!  Cheers!

Longest...Run...Ever!

So tonight is the runDisney Wine and Dine and I am in New England.  I wish I was down there with everyone else, but given that I am not I though I would go out for a great run on my own.  It was another of my day into night runs.  I hit the bike path while it was still light and then switched over to the road when night arrived.  I left with my water bottle, but forgot a gel pack.  So as my energy began to fade at about 1:40 in I stopped into a convenience store and picked up a 16 oz. Coke.  Sugar, caffeine and flavor.  I nursed it over the next hour and it quickly went flat so there was only a limited amount of carbonation burping.  It really saved me.  Lesson: always run with $5 so that you can save yourself from bonking when you need to.

So how far did I go?  Sixteen Miles Baby!  Longest-Run-Ever!  I took Jeff's advice and went the distance and did not worry about how long it took.  I was running for about 2:55 and when I got home I could still stand, walk, and give myself a shower.  These are all great things in my book.  I don't know how many more miles I could have run this evening.  Over the next few months I just need to add 10 to that number.

So I hope all of you Wine & Diners have a great run and a fantastic time tonight!  I am with you in spirit.  I logged my miles, now it is your turn!
