4 Days at WDW & 1 at Legoland pre-Princess Weekend

Our trips to Disney have thus far been huge family vacations.  The girls and I meet up with my parents and have one heck of a grand Disney vacation topped off with a runDisney race weekend.  This year my sister and her family joined us for race weekend, but more on that later.

The girls and I arrived the day before the grandparents and we got to experience the wonderful accommodations at Port Orleans Riverside.  We arrived late in the evening due to budget conscious flight choices.  We were at the resort by 9:30 pm or so and off to bed as soon as we got to them.

It took a few minutes to settle down.

Tinkerbell and Rapunzel made the trip with us!  They loved the room at Port Orleans Riverside!

In the morning we had chocolate chip pancakes in the room (my husband had made them up the day before and we were grateful).  With some food in our bellies we headed of to the pool at Ol' Man Island.  We had a wonderful swim even as the sky threatened, but that is all it did thankfully.

After getting cleaned up we were hungry for a little more breakfast and set off to explore the resorts food options.  We found yummy omelets and kids Mickey waffles at the Riverside Mill Food Court.  We were able to snag a table near the mill wheel overlooking the boardwalk.  It was a lovely spot to reflect on how lucky we were to be at Disney on our first morning.

Rapunzel contemplated getting her hair wrapped.
They were not quite sure how much it would cost for her hair so we passed.
Tinkerbell and Rapunzel took a moment to watch the movies in the lobby of POR along with the kids.
Since we were only staying at this resort for one night it was already time to check out.  We stored our luggage at the resort and boarded a boat to Downtown Disney.  After a bit of shopping we stopped for lunch at the Earl of Sandwich.  I wish they were in every park as well.  They would be our quick service choice hands down.  No sooner than lunch was over, but who should arrive, the grandparents!

Tinkerbell and Rapunzel waited for the boat ride to Downtown Disney.

Downtown Disney looking wonderful as always!
Our itinerary for the afternoon included picking up our luggage from POR, getting our park tickets at Shades of Green (thank you Mom & Dad for years of service and great adventures along the way), checking into Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort, and finally a shopping trip and dinner at Wholefoods.  Dad located the Wholefoods for the first time for this trip.  Their pizzas and hot & cold bars are fantastic dining at a reasonable price and you can buy your groceries for the week at the same time.  It is a definite win-win!

Day 1 in the parks was a Magic Kingdom day and we started it off right with a visit to Mickey Mouse himself!  We also did the sorcerers game which had us focused on Adventureland like never before.  In the evening we also did sorcerers in Fantasyland.  We were sad that we missed Big Thunder Mountain, Dumbo, and the Great Goofini.  We were there on Presidents Day and the park was very crowded.  We had lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern and finished the evening off with the Electric Light Parade.

The boat ride over was cold, but we were prepared!

There is a smile in there under that hoodie!

Love at first sight!

Sorcerers game was a big hit with Gramps and the youngest!

How is that for scale?  The fairies actually look small!
I had to say hello to Tinkerbell before I ran the 1/2 marathon dressed as her!

The characters always love our autograph albums.  We use pictures from our last visit.  You are guaranteed to get twice as much time with them.  They are always looking for themselves and everyone they know!

So I have a mushroom allergy.  I always register it with Disney when we travel.  The chef comes out to your table just to make sure that you are ordering something that they can make safely for you.  I can usually steer clear of the mushrooms on a menu, but since they are already there I get my photo with them.  I do work at one of the countries top culinary universities!

Goodnight Magic Kingdom!

Day 2 we were at Animal Kingdom.  We packed our lunch in and ate it out at Planet Watch.  Dinner was at Yak & Yeti (one of my favorite restaurants at the parks).  The park stayed open until 8 pm that night.  We loved riding the rides in the dark!

Which corral do the giraffes start in at runDisney races?  Maybe they should do an Animal Kingdom race with animals representing the corral numbers - G is for Giraffe, A is for Antelope, etc.

Day 3 we were at EPCOT.  We road our favorite rides like Soarin', Living with the Land and Test Track.  Then we headed for the World Showcase.  My youngest was really into Kim Possible this trip.  So we explored the countries like we never had before.  The girls got their autograph books stamped in the back at all the Kidcot stations.  Dinner was as Corral Reef.  It was a nostalgia dinner.  We had not eaten there since about 1986 and I thought the girls and my parents would enjoy it.  Well the reviews are all correct.  It was way too noisy, the service was slow, and the food was fine (but not great).  Too bad!  I wished we had eaten somewhere else!  I failed to mention that while we were on Test Track (pre-dinner) it started to rain.  We came out onto the track at whatever speed you are going only to be pelted with rain.  The park cleared out while we were at dinner.  It was a very quiet night in the park after that.

Stitch was thrilled he was in the autograph book!

I would love it if runDisney would stage a mini race at the train garden in Germany.

Happy as a duck out of water with my main duck!

Marie was almost blushing when she saw her picture in the book.

These character signs were new since our last trip to WDW for  2011s Princess Half Marathon.

Day 4 we left Disney and headed to Legoland.  Legoland opened in October 2011 and this was our first trip to Florida since then.  In many ways this was as much a Legoland trip as it was a runDisney Princess race trip.  The park is located at the old Cyprus Gardens.  It is about 45 minutes away from Orlando through orange grove country.  We enjoyed our day very much, but probably will not go back.  It is geared toward younger kids and is another chuck of money on top of the Disney park tickets.

If this doesn't get Lego fanatics excited...

Yes we have some bananas, we have some bananas today...

Almost good enough to eat!

Lego mini/mega figure show.  Watch out you may get wet!

Apple fries with whipped cream - A must have!

If you squint and look sideways you just might see the Marine Corps Marathon!

Day 5 was a Hollywood Studios day.  But before I would go to the park I would be so lucky as to go to the Social Media Meetup at EPCOT and to the Princess race expo to pick up a total of 10 race packets between all the runners in our vacationing family of 10.  None of the 3 grandparents raced, but the other 7 of us raced at least once and 3 of us raced twice!  More on the meetup, expo and racing will follow in other posts!  Anyway it was 1 pm by the time I got to Hollywood Studios.  My mother had taken the girls into the park at rope drop and they had enjoyed the morning together riding rides and watching shows.  Once my father and I arrived we joined in the fun, caught the parade, and all headed to Mama Melrose for Friday night pre-race dinner.  When we arrived back at the resort my sister and her family were on their way from the airport.  It was off to bed with all of us once they were fed and the race gear was all set out for the 5K and kids mile.  The alarms were set for 5 am if I recall correctly.

Loving the book!

I want their jobs!

Dinner at Mama Melrose on Friday night before the Tangled 5K.

Next up on the blog is the Princess Social Media Meetup at EPCOT!

Princess Runs-in-many-layers returns!

There once was a beautiful Princess.  Her name was Runs-in-many-layers.  Every winter she got to do what she loves best...go running.  She was training for a race of the Princesses that happened in a distant kingdom of warmth and sunshine.  To get there she had to run, and run, and run.  Here she is getting ready to start her run this beautiful early afternoon in southern New England.  Since she is training as a running photographer, she brought her camera along so that she could share the beauty with you!

Her beloved bike path was covered in 6 to 8 inches of snow and was more useful to cross country skiers than to a runner without snowshoes.  So Princess Runs-in-many-layers left the ski tracks and headed for the road.

The road led her around peninsulas with amazing views of the bay.  The ducks and birds were as happy with the day as she was.

But why stay on the road when the beach beckons.  So off-road she went.

The water in the inlet looked beautiful reflecting the clouds and the brilliant sun above.

She walked where only her friends had gone before, at least since the last high tide.

That is more than a cold wind making her smile.  It was a magical place to be and she was grateful for the snow, and the sun, and the wind, and being able to run!

The roads were run-able, but messy and more than once a car splashed her, but she did not mind.

She passed by many beautiful houses that she had seen before, and she stopped to say hello to some of them as she passed by.

At other houses friendly greeters stood in the yard to watch her passing.

She followed paths that led to quiet beaches...

...and enjoyed the views.

Before heading back home she stopped to look at her bike path again.  It once carried trains and passengers to and from the city.  Now is carries runners, cyclists, walkers, and dogs.

Speaking of dogs, she grabbed hers and headed back out so she could enjoy a look see at the winter wonderland that the world had become.

Embrace winter and go running!

Welcome to the Tinkerbell bell trials!

HEADLINE: The Bells are a GO!

So I took the costume out for a short spin this morning.  It was not too cold, but I did add a long sleeve shirt and a hat.  The bells were amazing.  Yes they make noise, but no they are not too loud or obnoxious.  They are being sewn onto the skirt tonight.

My girls came out with me to take pictures and shot a little video.  They have another day off school, so we get a long, long weekend!  I don't know if you can even hear the bells on the video.

No, the audio on the camera could not even pick up the bells.  Anyway, if I was talking to someone while running I would not even hear them, but they are there making a happy little ring as I run along on my merry way!

Now I need to consider wings.  To wear them or not to wear them?  I don't really like the ones I have, but I know there are some amazing ones available.  What do you suggest?

Go Tink Go!

Mailman delivers pre-run

So I was getting ready to head out for my run this morning when the mailman delivered the mail.  I finished putting my shoes on and went to get the mail.  There it was...our first communication pertaining to our upcoming trip to WDW and Princess weekend.

Magical Express here we come!
Needless to say it was a great way to start my run this morning.  We have spent the day doing laundry, watching the Olympic marathon trials, and now football.  All in all a great day!

1/2 Goofy at home

So by Friday night I was all wrapped up in the runDisney marathon weekend activities.  Only problem was that I was not in FL, I was in southern New England.  I set out on my evening run and started dreaming right away.  So was it possible?  Could I do a marathon this year?  Could I do the WDW marathon in 2013?  Could I do the Goofy in 2013?  Was about the full Dopey?  Of course I did not have any of the answers on Friday night.  They were all goals that I might or might no be able to achieve.  But I resolved that I would go for it, some or all to be determined.  I need to see what my body can handle.  First I need to run a marathon.  I started dreaming about just going out and doing it.  Crazy eh?  Well that is kind of my style.  So maybe not today, but soon.  And why not just go out and run a Goofy?  Well I am not there yet.

Anyways, I was able to get in 7 miles in the time I had on Friday, so I decided to do a 1/2 Goofy on Friday and Saturday.  Yes, I did make it out for 13 miles yesterday.  My knee did not feel so great afterwards however.  I think I may need to do that building up to it thing.  But I have time.  I just need to get a marathon in this year, preferably before I register for the WDW marathon.  So I have about 3 months right, well until the window opens for registration.

Who's with me?  I know you are!  And congratulations to all the amazing runners who ran at Disney this weekend.  I have loved following you and seeing your photos.  I can't wait to read your full reports and dream about next year!

1-1-2012 New Year & Disney on Ice

So here we all are looking back on the year that was...we ran, we had fun, we went to Disney, we ran Disney!  I think all in all 2011 was a pretty fantastic year.  I wrapped up the year a lot lighter than I began it and feel so much healthier.

Check out my new tights and running hat!  I have gotten in a few runs in  them already!

We picked up some new carry on luggage from my parents.  The bags go into service in February for the Princess half.  Aren't the colors fantastic!

My sister sent me a Disney ladybug key chain cover along with alot of other great gifts.  Thanks sister (she will be with me at the Princess along with our families).
So I was lucky enough to win some Disney on Ice tickets from my favorite Disney Mom's Panel Mom Ritzy.    She had posted a random give away for the show it town and I was one of two families who won.  So this fine New Years day we headed to the Duncan Donuts Center for the show.

The whole family went!  Guess who the photographer was?

Here he is, my favorite Duck - Mr. Donald himself!

and the main mouse couple - Minnie and Mickey.

A little under the water action.

These ladies know how to dress for a workout!

Sebastian was a childhood favorite!

The ticket lady herself - Disney Mom's panel presents Ritzy - She is in the know when it comes to all things Disney!
Just try her, go ahead ask her a question on the panel.

You know a few of these folks...

When you feel tired while racing just look for your shadow.
Maybe she will give you the extra energy you need to see you through.

They really could fly!

Hook found Peter's house - Oh no!

Run Tink run!  Taking costume notes from the pros.  (I start to sew my costumes tomorrow!)

They really should use some of these inflatables course side at the runDisney races.

Success!  Let us all raise a sword aloft as we cross the finish line.  Each of us will slay the course!
So as we start a new year, I have registered for 5 races so far this year and done my first run.  It was wonderful to see all the new years resolution runners out this morning.  There was a lot of great looking new running gear on parade and the day was beautiful.  I was out in my tights and long sleeve (no coat, hat or gloves).  I love the snow, but I also love great running weather.  Princess weekend will be here before we know it!  Focus on your final weeks of training and get your costumes in order!  Thanks for reading my posts and I hope you enjoy all of the pictures!  Happy New Year!!!
